Taido Matsubara (まつばら たいどう)
Buddhist Monk
Born in Tokyo in 1907. Served as the Head of Education for the Myoshin-ji School of the Rinzai Zen sect. His book Introduction to the Heart Sutra (Shodensha), published in 1972, became a bestseller with over 2 million copies sold, sparking a boom in Buddhist literature. Received the Buddhist Promotion Culture Award in 1989. He has authored over one hundred books.
