Antique Aluminum Clay Kaolin Coffee Pot Farmhouse Decor
N/A
Vintage Stoneware Coffee Pot marked Aluminum Clay or Kaolin After hours and hours of searching, we have narrowed the origin of this crude coffee pot to the eastern states where kaolin was mined and used for early porcelain and stoneware. It could have been produced by one of many factories. After extensive research we have not found another example of this stoneware coffee pot. This pot has one small chip in the spout and several chips in the lid edge as shown in the photos. Aluminum Clay, or Kaolinite, is a soft, earthy, usually white, mineral (dioctahedral phyllosilicate clay), produced by the chemical weathering of aluminum silicate minerals like feldspar. Kaolin in ceramics is the main component of porcelain. The first authentic American porcelain ceramics were produced in Jersey City, New Jersey in the early 19th century while simultaneously in Philadelphia an ambitious porcelain production factory was also operating. Thereafter, porcelain and earthenware ceramics were produced in many other places across the US.
