Vintage Mirro Coffee Percolator
Mirro
Vintage Mirro 9-cup aluminum stovetop coffee percolator, a classic mid-century kitchen and camping staple manufactured by the Mirro Aluminum Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Lightweight, quick-heating stamped aluminum shell with high thermal conductivity. 2 quarts, which brews roughly 9 standard cups of coffee.Handle: An ergonomic, black cool-touch Bakelite plastic handle designed to protect hands from stove or campfire heat. Top Knob: A clear resin/plastic or glass perk dome that allows you to monitor the strength and color of the coffee as it cycles. Compatibility: Works on gas stoves, electric stovetops, hot plates, or open campfires. Inside, this percolator relies on a continuous brewing cycle: A hollow metal tube sitting over a wide base plate at the bottom. A perforated aluminum filter container that holds coarsely ground coffee beans. A multi-holed lid over the basket to evenly distribute water. When water boils at the bottom of the pot, steam pressure forces it up through the stem, bubbling out of the top knob and raining down over the coffee grounds. Fill water below the internal spout holes. Use 1 tablespoon of coarse coffee grounds per cup of water. Heat on medium-high until perking starts, then immediately lower the heat. Let it gently perk for 3 to 7 minutes depending on your desired strength. Do not let it boil vigorously or the coffee will burn. Great for camping!
