Gambinossi N.Y. Vintage Italian Hand Tooled Leather Gilt Frame 8x10 w/ Easel 20s

Gambinossi N.Y. — Vintage Italian Hand-Tooled Leather Picture Frame  Florentine leather frame in cognac calfskin, gilt-stamped **GAMBINOSSI N.Y.** on the interior top rail. Dante Gambinossi ran a Florence-headquartered shop with a New York branch at 538 Madison Avenue, listed in Dau's New York Social Register in 1927 as selling hand-tooled leather and handmade linens from Italy. The shop occupied that address until 1943, dating this frame to roughly the 1920s–early 1940s.  Hand-tooled gilt borders on the face — a laurel band at the outer edge stepping through beaded lines and fillets to the sight edge, applied with heated brass wheels rather than machine-embossed. Interior rebate finished in red leather. Removable backing panel faced in gold moiré silk with gilt-tooled edges.  Complete original hardware: hinged easel strut with stay bar for tabletop display, plus the original gilt leather tab and cord for wall hanging. Frame stands square and level.  Measurements: approx. 10.5 x 12.5” outer, fits 8 × 10  Condition: Very good vintage. Leather supple with even patina, no cracking on the show face. Gilt tooling crisp with light corner wear. A few scuffs and knicks as noted in pictures. Interior rebate has dye loss and abrasion to the suede in places, plus old paper tape residue along the top — none of it visible when assembled and displayed. Glass shows light surface scratching and haze. Moiré silk bright with minor gilt loss at the panel edges.
