Rare Set of 3 Post-WW2 Metal Shot Glasses Marked “Germany US Zone” With Holder
N/A
Unusual little set of three vintage nesting shot glasses made out of metal. These were meant to be stored in a little stitched brown leather-like case to keep them snapped together. Some wear to the case and metal cups is present commensurate with age. The end of the tab strap on the little case bearing the female part of the snap is missing, likely due to the constant crease that would have been present. The part of the strap still attached via stitching to the tiny case shows significant wear (shown). Still a charming little set which dates back to the late 1940s or very early 1950s (see more below). Fabulous find for a collector of unusual barware or WW2 / postwar memorabilia. Materials of which this set is made are not noted. Approximate height of a single shot is 1 & 5/8 inches tall (a little more than 1.5”). Items made after World War 2 in West Germany were marked, “(Made in) Germany US Zone” during the years 1946-1951; the American Zone primarily covered Southern Germany including Bavaria and Hesse. After that, items were stamped “Made in West Germany” from 1952-1989 (the wall came down). So from 1990 to present, the marking reverted to “Made in Germany” like was used before the war. Although a popular style still in production in similar forms, markings on the bottoms date these to a specific period. #vintage metal travel shot glasses #post war #Germany US Zone #Barware #shot glass set #1940s #1950s #history buff #world war II memorabilia #WWII MEMORABILIA
