Kendo equipment: Izumi-ko chest-attached sharkskin do. New, unused.
This is a sharkskin-paneled *do* (body armor) from the late Izumi Kō. As you can see from the assembly, it was personally crafted and fitted by the late Izumi Kō himself. The *do-dai* (body armor base) is finished with *itten-uri* (a type of lacquer finish). The sharkskin originally had a tiger shark pattern, but it was deliberately smoothed out and finished in black polish. As a result, various patterns have emerged, resembling willow sharkskin, with scattered dots and some dots resembling snowmen. The central knot is not a single dot but appears to be three overlapping ones. I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but I've never seen anything like it, so it's a matter of personal preference. I made this over 15 years ago intending to use it myself, but people around me told me it was too good for me and that I should sell it to someone who would appreciate it, so I've decided to list it. The chest plate is a full navy blue *kumo* S-stitch with *namichidori* (wave-plover) embroidery. The side supports are the optional three-legged style. While two-legged supports are more common, I went all out and made it with three legs. Please understand that the price is not cheap. If it doesn't sell, I plan to use it for the New Year.
